Why Summer Is a Good Time to Buy Heating Oil

Winter might still be months away, but if you want to save money, you should start making preparations for colder weather now. For instance, you should never allow the heating oil supply in your tank to become fully depleted. This is because the air (which contains water vapor) that replaces the oil in the tank can cause rust to form on the walls and encourage the formation of mold. 

While it may seem too early to order heating oil, purchasing oil in the summer can actually save you money. Thomas J. Fannon & Sons, your trusted heating and air conditioning contractor, explains how below: 

Lower off-season prices. As the demand for heating oil increases, so does its price. That’s why it’s a good idea to take advantage of lower off-season prices in the summer. The more oil you buy in bulk, the more money you’ll save in the winter. 

Better supply availability. As demand for heating oil spikes, the reliability of its supply drops. If you wait until winter to buy heating oil, there’s no guarantee your supplier will have enough in stock. To avoid the inconvenience of having to look elsewhere for heating oil in the middle of winter, it’s best to stock up in the off-season. 

Faster fuel delivery. You can order heating oil any month of the year. However, if you want to avoid weather-related delays, you should order heating oil in the summer. 

Preparing for fall and winter. In addition to ordering heating oil, don’t forget to have your HVAC or ductless split system inspected. This is to prevent a breakdown (which is the last thing anyone wants to deal with in the winter) and make sure it continues running smoothly. 

How often should you have your HVAC system serviced? As a general rule, HVAC systems should be inspected by an experienced technician at least twice a year.
